The Karnataka government has ordered all schools, industries, and IT/BT companies to hoist the Karnataka state flag on November 1, in celebration of Karnataka Rajyotsava Day. Rajyotsava, also known as Kannada Day, is celebrated annually on November 1 to mark the formation of the state of Karnataka. This day commemorates the merger of Kannada-speaking regions in South India into one state in 1956.
According to the government order, both government and private schools must hoist the Karnataka flag and organize cultural programs that focus on promoting the Kannada language and culture. These programs aim to instill a sense of pride and awareness about Kannada among students. While IT and BT companies are exempt from organizing cultural programs, they are still required to hoist the Karnataka flag on their premises. Additionally, they must document the flag-hoisting event through photographs and submit them to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar called on all institutions, including IT, factories, and other establishments, to ensure the hoisting of the Kannada flag on November 1 in front of their premises. He emphasized, “Today, as the minister for Bengaluru, I have decided to appeal to all institutions, including IT companies, factories, and establishments, that on November 1, they should hoist the Kannada flag in front of their institutions.”
By making these directives, the Karnataka government aims to ensure that Kannada language and culture are honored across the state on this important day. The participation of all institutions will further strengthen the state’s cultural identity and heritage.
