Aakhir Tak – In Depth
Kangana Ranaut’s highly anticipated political drama film Emergency is now likely to release after the Punjab elections. Originally scheduled for release on September 6, the film has now been delayed. India Today Digital has exclusively learned that the makers are planning to finalize the release date after the elections.
A source close to the production said, “After agreeing to all the terms set by the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification), the team has decided that the film will most likely be released after the Punjab elections. The film is close to everyone’s heart, and the audience should get a chance to see it. So, after much consideration, and to avoid hurting anyone’s sentiments, the team decided that releasing it during a calmer time would be the best option.”
The film Emergency has received a U/A certificate, with a few suggested cuts. Directed by and starring Kangana Ranaut, the film chronicles the political events surrounding the 1975 Emergency imposed by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Since the trailer dropped, the film has generated a lot of buzz, and some Sikh organizations have opposed it, leading to a delay in the release.
While the exact release date remains undecided, it is clear that the makers are monitoring the political climate closely and will pick a suitable time to ensure the film’s smooth release.
