Indian-origin Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris fondly recalled her memories with her grandparents during a special National Grandparents Day message. On Sunday, she highlighted how her grandparents’ commitment to public service continues to inspire her today.
“As a young girl visiting my grandparents in India, my grandfather took me on his morning walks, where he would discuss the importance of fighting for equality and fighting corruption,” Harris said in a post on X. Her grandfather, a retired civil servant, had been part of India’s independence movement and his values significantly influenced her.
Harris also shared that her grandmother was actively engaged in social work, traveling across India with a bullhorn to educate women about birth control. Her grandparents’ dedication to public service and their fight for a better future have deeply impacted her.
“Happy National Grandparents Day to all the grandparents who help shape and inspire the next generation,” Harris said, paying tribute to their significant role. As the current Vice President, Kamala Harris is running against former president Donald Trump in the upcoming election, carrying forward her family’s legacy of commitment and service.
