Kamala Harris Triumphs, Trump Fails in Debate

In the recent second US presidential debate, Vice President Kamala Harris decisively outperformed Donald Trump. Harris aggressively questioned Trump about his criminal convictions, views on abortion rights, and the size of his rallies. This debate marked a significant shift in the presidential race.

Experts view Harris’s performance as a major win for Democrats, particularly after President Joe Biden exited the race following a poor showing in June. Buoyed by her performance, Harris has called for a second debate, though Trump has been non-committal.

During the debate, Harris was seen directly engaging with Trump, countering his claims, and maintaining a confident demeanor. Notably, she responded to Trump’s accusation of being a Marxist by placing her hand on her chin, signaling disagreement.

In contrast, Trump appeared agitated and less focused, particularly during discussions on abortion. He struggled to answer whether he would veto a national abortion ban if elected. Trump also seemed irritated by Harris’s comments that people left his rallies out of “exhaustion” and “boredom,” defending his rally attendance and dismissing Harris’s events.

The debate also featured live fact-checking by ABC News moderators, who challenged Trump’s bizarre claim that immigrants were eating pets in Ohio, stating there was no evidence for such assertions.

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie criticized Trump’s debate preparation, calling it a significant failure. Fox News political analyst Brit Hume affirmed that Kamala Harris had the upper hand, declaring that Trump had a poor night and needed to improve his performance to avoid losing the election.
