Vijayvargiya’s Comment on Woman’s Attire Sparks Controversy
Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Minister and senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya sparked a controversy after he condemned a woman’s clothing in Indore. The woman posted videos of herself wearing skimpy clothes while walking through popular street markets, which led Vijayvargiya to comment that her behavior tarnished the image of the city. He emphasized that such actions would not be tolerated.
The woman was seen walking through Indore’s well-known Meghdoot Chaat Chowpatty and 56 Dukan Chaat Chowpatty in revealing clothes. The videos, titled “Public Reaction,” stirred mixed reactions on social media, with some criticizing the woman’s attire.
Vijayvargiya stated, “A woman approached me, complaining that some girls are walking around in revealing clothes, tarnishing the city’s reputation. This is Mata Ahilya’s city, and such behavior is unacceptable. I’ve made it clear to the authorities that this will not be tolerated. Some are walking through the market in extremely short clothes, compromising the dignity of the city. Should we allow Indore’s image to be damaged like this?”
The BJP leader’s remarks triggered political opposition, particularly from Congress, which strongly opposed his statement. Madhya Pradesh Congress Women’s Wing President Vibha Patel lashed out, saying, “BJP leaders are intoxicated by power. They have no right to dictate what women should wear. As times change, so should mindsets. Women cannot be forced to wear specific clothing.”
Following the controversy, the woman apologized in an emotional video, expressing regret over her actions and stating that she had suicidal thoughts due to the backlash.
Vijayvargiya’s remarks ignited a wave of political and social criticism. Congress leaders accused him of trying to police women’s clothing, while his supporters argued that the culture of Indore and Madhya Pradesh should be respected.
