Japan-Bound Flight Plays Explicit Film for All Passengers
A Qantas flight from Sydney to Haneda (Japan) experienced a technical issue that led to an explicit movie being played on all screens. Passengers aboard flight QF59 were left in disbelief as the R-rated film “Daddio” (2023), featuring Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn, showcased explicit sexual material and graphic nudity.
“It was impossible to pause, dim, or turn it off. The movie they played was extremely inappropriate,” shared one shocked passenger on Reddit. It took nearly an hour before the film was switched to something more suitable for all ages. “It was super uncomfortable for everyone, especially with families and kids on board.”
Qantas confirmed the incident, explaining that the in-flight entertainment system suffered a malfunction that prevented individual film selections. The airline mentioned that crew members attempted to resolve the issue by asking passengers for movie preferences, which led to “Daddio” being played for the entire cabin.
When it became clear that the film was unsuitable for general viewing, crew members tried to address the situation. However, when this proved impossible, the movie was replaced with a more kid-friendly option.
In a statement to news.com.au, a Qantas spokesperson apologized for the mishap, stating that playing family-friendly films is standard practice in situations where individual movie selection is not available. “The movie was clearly not suitable to play for the whole flight, and we sincerely apologize to customers for this experience,” the spokesperson added, noting that they are reviewing how the movie was selected.
