Aakhir Tak – In Depth
Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) announced its second list of candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections on Saturday. This list includes 22 candidates, raising the total number of NCP (Sharad Pawar) candidates to 67 under the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance in Maharashtra, which includes the Congress and Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena.
The NCP has fielded several prominent candidates this time. Sitting MLAs Satish Anna Patil and Satish Chavan have been given tickets from the Erandol-Parola and Gangapur constituencies, respectively. Former MLA Pandurang Barora has secured the Shahpur seat ticket, while Rahul Mote will contest from the Paranda constituency. Beed’s sitting MLA, Sandeep Kshirsagar, aims to retain his seat on an NCP ticket.
The second list also includes key candidates like Mayura Kale (Arvi), Deepika Chavan (Baghlan), Manikrao Shinde (Yevla), Uday Sangle (Sinnar), Sunita Charoskar (Dindori), Ganesh Geeta (Nashik-East), and Omi Kalani from Ulhasnagar.
According to the seat-sharing agreement in Maharashtra, the MVA alliance partners—NCP (Sharad Pawar), Congress, and Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena—have allocated around 85 seats each. Out of the 288 seats in the Maharashtra Assembly, 10 will be reserved for smaller parties and allies, while over 20 seats are still under discussion.
Meanwhile, Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party (SP) has demanded five seats and has threatened to contest solo if their demands are unmet. Elections for the 288-seat Maharashtra Assembly will be held in a single phase on November 20, with results declared on November 23.
