Aakhir Tak – In Depth
Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif has regarded Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar’s visit to Pakistan as a positive development in India-Pakistan relations. Jaishankar visited Islamabad for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting on October 16. In an exclusive conversation with India Today, Sharif expressed optimism that this visit could help both countries move beyond their historical differences and focus on future challenges such as energy crises and climate change.
Sharif stressed the need to resume the peace process between India and Pakistan, highlighting that the process should not be derailed. “We should pick up the threads from where we left off,” Sharif remarked, pointing to decades of unresolved tensions. He firmly believes that with serious efforts, both countries can address their longstanding issues.
Sharif also expressed his desire for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to participate in the peace efforts. “I would have loved for Modi to come,” he said. He added a significant point, “We can’t change our neighbors; we should live like good neighbors.”
Sharif also emphasized that it is time to stop dragging the tension for more years, stating, “75 years have passed like this; let’s not waste another 75.” He emphasized that both nations need to work together to address their differences and look towards the future.
