Israel is currently engaged in fierce fighting on three of its five fronts, with Hamas, Hezbollah, and Houthi fighters all actively involved. This conflict erupted after a surprise attack on Israel by Hamas on October 7. Now, Israel faces not just Hamas’s attacks but also rocket fire from Hezbollah in Lebanon and missile and drone strikes from Houthi rebels in Yemen. All these groups are backed by Iran, which seeks to extend its influence in West Asia.
Hamas launched attacks from the Gaza Strip, while Hezbollah fired rockets and missiles from Israel’s northern border. At the same time, the Houthis in Yemen began launching missile and drone strikes against Israel. In response, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have conducted widespread airstrikes, targeting key leaders of Hamas and Hezbollah, dealing significant blows to their operations.
This war has turned into what is being called Israel’s “war of survival” as it now encompasses not just Hamas but also Iran-backed groups in Lebanon and Yemen. Iran, which is supporting these groups, has intensified the conflict, forcing Israel to spread its forces across three active fronts.
For Israel, this is not just about defending against Hamas—it’s about confronting Iran and its proxy groups, which aim to destroy Israel. The future of this war largely depends on whether Iran directly joins the conflict. If that happens, Israel could find itself fighting on all five fronts.
