Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a powerful speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Friday. He reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to peace, while emphasizing that the country is fighting for its life against “savage enemies” who seek its destruction.
Netanyahu stated, “Israel is seeking peace despite fighting for its life. Our enemies not only want to destroy us, but they also aim to destroy our shared civilization and return us all to a dark age of tyranny and terror.”
Israel has recently intensified strikes on Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon, raising concerns of further escalation in the Middle East.
In his address, Netanyahu made it clear that Israel will fight “until we achieve total victory” if Hamas does not surrender. He also declared that Israel would no longer tolerate daily rocket attacks by the Iran-backed terror group Hezbollah. “Enough is enough,” he emphasized.
The Prime Minister highlighted the plight of 60,000 northern Israeli residents forced to flee their homes due to the Hezbollah threat. He drew a comparison with the situation, asking, “How long would the American government tolerate that?”
He continued, “We won’t rest until our citizens return safely to our homes.” Netanyahu accused Hezbollah of violating United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 for 18 years, allowing the group to expand its military presence near Israel’s borders, endangering both Israeli and Lebanese civilians.
Netanyahu also underscored Israel’s right to self-defense, pledging that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) would continue their operations as long as Hezbollah remains on its “path of aggression.”
He noted that Israeli forces have already targeted senior Hezbollah military commanders and key missile infrastructure, and vowed to continue efforts until all military objectives are achieved.
