The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have uncovered a large underground weapons cache beneath a residential building in southern Lebanon. This discovery comes as part of ongoing military operations aimed at dismantling Hezbollah’s infrastructure in the region. The weapons storage, located approximately seven meters below the building, was found in a small village where Hezbollah has reportedly embedded its assets.
The IDF’s Paratroopers Brigade has been conducting a series of raids, following intelligence reports suggesting Hezbollah militants are using civilian areas to hide military compounds. During one such raid, IDF forces engaged in a firefight with Hezbollah fighters inside a fortified building. The skirmish, backed by air support from the Israel Air Force (IAF), resulted in the deaths of several Hezbollah operatives, including the IDF squad commander Captain Ben Zion Falach.
Using real-time drone intelligence, IDF forces identified the positions of the militants, leading to precise airstrikes and close-quarters combat. One Hezbollah fighter was killed inside the compound, and following the confrontation, IDF soldiers discovered a large weapons cache beneath the home involved in the conflict.
The cache contained sniper rifles and other equipment designed for long-range attacks, emphasizing Hezbollah’s strategy of storing military assets within civilian infrastructure. This tactic presents challenges for minimizing civilian casualties during military operations.
Tensions between Israel and Hezbollah have escalated in recent months, with Israel vowing to dismantle the Iran-backed organization. Along with airstrikes in Lebanon, Israel has also carried out targeted assassinations of top Hezbollah leaders, while continuing localized ground operations in southern Lebanon.
