An Indian Army tactical drone, engaged in a routine surveillance mission, inadvertently crossed the Line of Control (LoC) from Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri sector and landed in Pakistan on Friday morning. The incident, which occurred at approximately 9:30 am, has raised concerns, prompting the possibility of Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) level talks between the Indian and Pakistani armies to resolve the situation.
Sources revealed that the drone was part of a routine operation when it unintentionally strayed across the border into Pakistani territory. Upon recovery by the Pakistan Army, the situation escalated, necessitating a diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
This incident follows closely on the heels of another recent event involving the Indian military. Two days prior, an Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter aircraft experienced a technical malfunction, leading to the inadvertent release of a practice bomb near the Pokhran firing range in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district, close to the Pakistan border. The practice bomb, designed for drills on designated targets, landed in an open area, causing a blast but resulting in no casualties or property damage.
An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the technical issues in both cases. Military officials are closely monitoring the situation, as both incidents have occurred near the sensitive India-Pakistan border region, heightening tensions and necessitating prompt resolution.
The Indian Army’s drone incident underscores the importance of maintaining strict control over military assets, especially in areas with high strategic significance such as the LoC. The forthcoming discussions at the DGMO level are expected to focus on preventing similar occurrences in the future and maintaining peace along the border.
