Aakhir Tak – In Shorts
India’s chances to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) final have taken a severe blow after the Pune Test loss. The defeat has reduced India’s PCT to 62.82%. Rohit Sharma’s team now faces the pressure to win the next matches.
Aakhir Tak – In Depth
India’s World Test Championship (WTC) final aspirations have weakened following a loss in the home Test series against New Zealand. Dominating the WTC points table throughout the 2023-25 cycle, India’s chances have now become uncertain. The team’s PCT, which stood at 74%, has now dropped to 62.82%, with Australia close behind.
This is India’s first home Test series loss in 11 years, leaving them with no room for mistakes in the upcoming six Test matches. To secure their spot in the WTC final without relying on other teams’ outcomes, India must aim for at least five wins and one draw.
Key Competitor Teams
Sri Lanka and South Africa also have potential to qualify for the WTC final. Sri Lanka will need victories in all remaining matches, while South Africa could make it if they continue winning their home Tests.
Great result for South Africa

Australia’s path to qualification involves securing four wins in the remaining matches. Despite both teams leading the points table, it’s unlikely both India and Australia will make it to the final, as they are set to face each other.
