Major Incidents and Historical Context

In October, a crude bomb was thrown at a Durga Puja mandap in Dhaka’s Tantibazar. Although no injuries occurred, the attack symbolized growing hostility. Additionally, the crown of Goddess Kali, gifted by PM Modi during his 2021 visit, was stolen from the Jeshoreshwari temple.

The attacks have intensified after the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government, with the interim leadership under Muhammad Yunus being urged to restore security and faith among minorities.

MoS for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh told Parliament that India has consistently pressed Bangladesh to protect minorities. He highlighted incidents like the theft at Jeshoreshwari temple and emphasized the interim government’s responsibility to uphold minority safety.
