Modi remarked, “I have been in constant touch with you regarding the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. As I have previously stated, issues should be resolved through peaceful means. India fully supports the early establishment of peace and stability and is ready to provide all possible cooperation.”
There is also a possibility that PM Modi will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping during the summit, along with other bilateral talks with BRICS member nation leaders.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, PM Modi was welcomed at Kazan airport by Rustam Minnikhanov, head of the Republic of Tatarstan. In an earlier interview with India Today, India’s Ambassador to Russia, Vinay Kumar, emphasized India’s firm stance on advocating peaceful conflict resolution through dialogue and diplomacy.
Last month, Russian President Putin acknowledged PM Modi as a “friend” and appreciated India’s support in seeking a peaceful resolution to the Russia-Ukraine war. Putin extended a special invitation to Modi for this BRICS Summit.
This marks Modi’s second visit to Russia this year, following his attendance at the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit in Moscow in July, where he also received Russia’s highest civilian award, the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle.
In a major development ahead of the BRICS Summit, India and China agreed to resume patrolling along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, marking a significant diplomatic breakthrough.
The two-day BRICS Summit, themed “Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security,” will provide a platform for world leaders to discuss pressing global issues and review progress on key initiatives launched by the nine-nation alliance.
