India has set a new world record for the fastest team fifty and the fastest team hundred in Test cricket. This remarkable achievement occurred during the fourth day of the second Test match against Bangladesh at Green Park in Kanpur. The Indian team reached a fifty in just 3 overs and a hundred in 10.1 overs.
Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal adopted a T20-like batting approach. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 30 runs off 13 balls, while Rohit Sharma contributed 19 runs from 6 balls. Their partnership played a crucial role in India’s swift scoring. Rohit Sharma was eventually out for 23 runs off 11 balls.
Previously, England set a record for the fastest fifty against the West Indies in July, achieving it in 4.2 overs. India has now surpassed England’s record.
India’s fastest fifty and fastest hundred records are as follows:
Fastest Team 50:
- 3 – India vs Bangladesh, Kanpur, 2024
