Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy Urges India to Support Ending Russia-Ukraine War
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called upon India to take a definitive stance in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. In a historic meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kyiv, Zelenskyy emphasized the need for India’s support in ending the war, urging the nation to avoid a neutral or balancing act.
During the talks, Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude for PM Modi’s visit, marking the first time an Indian Prime Minister has visited war-torn Ukraine since its independence. Zelenskyy highlighted the importance of India’s role in global peace efforts, stating, “India has a big role to play in ending our war with Russia.”
The two leaders discussed various ways to reach a negotiated settlement to the conflict, which has significantly impacted global stability. Zelenskyy mentioned that Ukraine is ready to share its technology with India, following the signing of four Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) between the two nations.
In an exclusive interview with India Today TV, Zelenskyy reiterated his hope that India would recognize the gravity of the situation, stating, “India will play its role. This is not just a conflict, this is a real war started by one man, Vladimir Putin, against Ukraine.”
Zelenskyy also criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin for his lack of respect towards PM Modi, particularly in light of ongoing attacks during official visits. “The problem is that Putin doesn’t want peace. He doesn’t respect India or its Prime Minister,” Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian President expressed his desire to visit India soon, noting that New Delhi’s support could be crucial in resolving the crisis. He also spoke about the potential for increased economic collaboration between the two countries, including the exchange and production of goods.
Zelenskyy also addressed the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict, drawing a distinction between it and the war in Ukraine. He stressed that the war with Russia is not rooted in religious differences but is a conflict driven by a single individual, Vladimir Putin.
