India Calls for Restraint Amid Escalating Mideast Tensions
India has urged all parties in the Middle East to maintain restraint amid escalating tensions. The country stated that the conflict should not take a wider regional dimension, emphasizing the need for “dialogue and diplomacy” to resolve all conflicting issues.
On Wednesday, India expressed deep concern over the recent escalation following Iran’s missile attacks on Israel. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in addressing these conflicts.
In a statement, the MEA said, “We are deeply concerned at the escalation of the security situation in West Asia and reiterate our call for restraint by all concerned. It is important that the conflict does not take a wider regional dimension and that all issues are addressed through dialogue and diplomacy.”
India’s statements came a day after Iran launched an unprecedented attack on Israel, firing more than 180 ballistic missiles. Alarms sounded across Israel, with explosions heard in Jerusalem and the Jordan River valley. Israelis rushed into bomb shelters while reporters on state television lay flat during live broadcasts.
According to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, hypersonic Fattah missiles were used for the first time, with 90 percent hitting their targets in Israel.
Israeli Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari noted that most missiles were intercepted “by Israel and a defensive coalition led by the US.” He tweeted, “Iran’s attack is a severe and dangerous escalation.”
No injuries were reported in Israel, but one person was killed in the West Bank, authorities confirmed.
The Middle East has faced a tumultuous security situation for nearly a year, following an unprecedented attack by Hamas on Israel, which resulted in approximately 1,200 deaths and over 200 hostages. This attack triggered the ongoing war in Gaza, which has claimed over 41,000 lives.
