Aakhir Tak – In Depth
India and China successfully completed the disengagement process at two key friction points—Demchok and Depsang Plains—in eastern Ladakh. On the occasion of Diwali, troops from both sides exchanged sweets at five Border Personnel Meeting (BPM) points along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Army sources reported that this symbolic gesture followed the completion of the disengagement a day prior.
On Wednesday, an Army source confirmed that troops had completed the disengagement, with patrols set to resume shortly. The verification process is currently underway, and patrol protocols are being finalized by local commanders. India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated on October 21 that an agreement between India and China had been reached, providing a framework for disengagement and patrolling along the LAC.
This agreement signifies a breakthrough in easing the four-year-long standoff and is expected to contribute positively to the stability along the border.
