Aakhir Tak – In Depth
India and China have started the disengagement process along their eastern Ladakh border, removing temporary structures and tents as part of their agreement. Both sides aim to revert to pre-April 2020 positions and resume patrols in designated areas by Oct 29. This process aims to pave the way for peace along the disputed border, with trust-building measures at the forefront.
Temporary structures and tents on both sides, particularly in Demchok and Depsang, are being removed. After complete removal, a joint verification process will be conducted on-site and via aerial surveys. Local military commanders hold daily hotline calls to discuss the day’s activities, aiming for cooperation and mutual trust.
China has reduced its vehicle presence, and India has likewise decreased troop numbers in the area. This agreement was bolstered by a meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi at the recent BRICS summit, signaling renewed efforts to normalize relations.
