A massive public movement has begun in various parts of Bihar against the implementation of prepaid smart meters. Led by Subodh Yadav, a member of the Social Justice Movement, an electricity consumer association has been formed, with Rameshwar Chaudhary appointed as the president. The primary objective of this meeting was to organize people against prepaid smart meters and launch a major campaign against it.
Representatives from various panchayats were selected during the meeting, including Janardan Prasad from Bhadasi Panchayat Committee as Vice President, Ritesh Kumar from Kaler, Sonu Nigam from Karpi, Kush Kumar, Chandan Kumar, Sudhir Kumar, Dheeraj Kumar as Secretaries, Sadam Hussain from Walidad as Treasurer, and Avinash Kumar as Social Media Coordinator.
The electricity consumer association has decided to hold a hunger strike on September 23 and 24. Prior to this, a public awareness campaign will begin on September 20. The campaign will include three days of loudspeaker announcements and street meetings at various locations. The aim of this movement is to pressure the government to remove the mandatory installation of prepaid smart meters and provide relief to consumers.
The association believes that the prepaid meter system has led to increased electricity costs and inconvenience for consumers. They stated that this movement will continue until the government addresses the concerns of the consumers.
This public protest sends a strong message to the government that if the issues faced by consumers are not resolved, the movement could grow even larger in the coming days.
