The Congress-led Himachal Pradesh government has mandated all food vendors and eateries across the state to display the names and addresses of their owners to facilitate customers. This decision was taken during a meeting of the state’s Urban Development and Municipal Corporation on Tuesday.
Himachal Pradesh’s directive aligns with a similar one issued by the Uttar Pradesh government, which requires operators, proprietors, and managers at food and drink establishments to clearly display their names and addresses. Following the Uttar Pradesh model, Himachal Pradesh decided to implement the same in its jurisdiction.
To ensure proper execution, Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania has formed a seven-member committee, including Ministers Vikramaditya Singh and Anirudh Singh.
During the meeting, Vikramaditya Singh also announced that laws would be introduced for street vendors, which will include the issuance of identity cards to hawkers.
The food regulation orders by both Himachal and Uttar Pradesh governments come in the wake of the Tirupati laddu controversy. A lab report revealed that the laddus offered as prasad to devotees at Andhra Pradesh’s famous Tirupati temple contained animal fats and fish oil.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu accused the previous YSR Congress government of using animal fats and substandard ingredients in making the Tirupati laddu.
