The Israeli military claimed on Tuesday that it had killed Suhail Hussein Husseini, the head of Hezbollah’s logistics unit, in an airstrike carried out in the Beirut area on Monday, October 7. Hezbollah has not yet issued any immediate comment regarding the incident.
In a social media post, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) shared that their fighter jets, following precise instructions from the Intelligence Division, had successfully targeted a compound in Beirut. According to the IDF, the strike resulted in the death of Suhail Hussein Husseini, a key figure within Hezbollah’s hierarchy.
The IDF post read: “Yesterday, under the precise direction of the Intelligence Division, Air Force fighter jets targeted the Beirut area and killed Suhail Hussein Husseini, the head of the Hezbollah terrorist organisation’s headquarters.”
This strike followed an earlier operation on October 3, where the Israeli Air Force announced the killing of three senior leaders from the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas. Among those killed was Rawhi Mushtaha, the head of Hamas’ Gaza government.
In that strike, an underground compound in northern Gaza was hit, leading to the deaths of Rawhi Mushtaha and two other Hamas commanders, Sameh Siraj and Sameh Oudeh.
Earlier in September, in a “precision strike” in Lebanon’s Beirut, Israel also killed Hezbollah’s chief, Hassan Nasrallah, dealing a significant blow to the Iran-backed terrorist organisation.
The Middle East has been facing ongoing security turmoil for nearly a year, following an unprecedented attack by Hamas on Israel. This attack resulted in the deaths of around 1,200 people and the abduction of over 200 others. Since then, the Gaza war has claimed over 41,000 lives.
