Heavy Rain Wreaks Havoc in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana: Flood Alert Issued
Heavy rains have severely impacted Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, leading to widespread flooding, road closures, and disruptions in train services. Low-lying areas in both states are inundated, causing immense difficulties for residents. The India Meteorological Department has predicted that the heavy rainfall will persist for the next two to three days due to a depression in the Bay of Bengal.
In Andhra Pradesh, the floods have already claimed eight lives. Five people were killed in landslides in Vijayawada, where massive boulders fell on houses. In Guntur, a teacher and two students lost their lives after their car was swept away by floodwaters. Over 80 people have been rescued by state and national disaster relief teams, with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu continuously monitoring the situation. He has ordered an immediate release of Rs 3 crore to each district for relief efforts.
Train services have also been severely affected, particularly on the Vijayawada-Warangal route. Tracks near Vijayawada and Mahabubabad railway stations have been submerged, halting train movement. The Central Water Commission warns that rivers in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are expected to swell, posing further risks.
The Andhra Pradesh government has set up a state-level control room to coordinate rescue efforts and provide emergency medical services. Citizens are encouraged to contact the control room at +919032384168 for assistance.
In Telangana, similar chaos prevails. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has instructed all departments to remain vigilant, with control rooms established across the state to handle emergencies. Relief camps are being set up to shelter those displaced by floodwaters. Heavy rain is forecasted to continue, especially in districts like Adilabad, Nizamabad, and Warangal.
National Disaster Response Force teams have been deployed in Hyderabad and Vijayawada, ready to assist in rescue operations. As both states brace for continued downpours, authorities urge residents to stay safe and follow official guidance.
