Hezbollah Confirms Hassan Nasrallah’s Death in Israeli Airstrike
Hezbollah confirmed on Saturday that its leader, Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut. The massive strike on Friday also took the lives of several other commanders, marking a significant blow to the Iran-backed terror group.
The 64-year-old Nasrallah’s death was part of Israel’s “Operation New Order.” After the strike, Hezbollah’s Al-Manar TV broadcast Quranic verses in mourning of Nasrallah’s death, Reuters reported.
Nasrallah’s death is a severe setback for Hezbollah, which has been engaged in armed conflict with Israel following Hamas’ October 7, 2023, assault on Israel. However, Hezbollah announced that it will continue its battle “in support of Gaza and Palestine, and in defense of Lebanon and its steadfast and honorable people.”
Nasrallah led Hezbollah for over three decades, playing a pivotal role in establishing the group as a political-militant organization in the region. With his killing, Israel hopes to dismantle Hezbollah’s power structure and reduce its influence near its borders.
Reports indicate that Nasrallah’s daughter, Zainab Nasrallah, and the Commander of Hezbollah’s Southern Front, Ali Karki, were also killed in the attack, along with several other senior commanders.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) carried out a precision airstrike on Friday evening, targeting Hezbollah’s leadership as they met in their headquarters in Dahiyeh, south of Beirut. According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, the strike resulted in six deaths and over 90 injuries. The powerful airstrike leveled six apartments and caused tremors felt within a 30-kilometer radius.
As Israel continued its offensive in Lebanon, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, called on Muslims on Saturday to support Hezbollah against what he referred to as the “wicked regime” of Israel. Khamenei stated, “The fate of this region will be determined by the forces of resistance, with Hezbollah at the forefront,” according to state media reports.
