The Haryana government has decided to reserve 10% of police and mining department jobs for Agniveers, individuals recruited under the central government’s Agnipath scheme. This announcement comes as a move to secure votes from former soldiers in the upcoming polls.
The decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. It ensures that 10% of Group C posts in police jobs and mining guards will be reserved for Agniveers.
Chief Minister Khattar emphasized that the Agnipath scheme was initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to enhance the youth’s spirit of nationalism. He mentioned that Haryana was the first state to offer government jobs to Agniveers.
The BJP-led government in Haryana has also increased the ex-gratia amount for the kin of security personnel who lose their lives in the line of duty. The ex-gratia amount has been raised to Rs 50 lakh from the previous Rs 25 lakh.
The Agnipath scheme, launched in June 2022, allows youth aged between 17.5 and 21 years to serve in the armed forces for four years. After completing their service, they are known as Agniveers.
The Haryana government’s decision to reserve jobs for Agniveers reflects its ongoing efforts to support former soldiers and their families while addressing employment concerns among the youth.
