Aakhir Tak – In Depth The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have stated that during an airstrike in the Gaza Strip, three terrorists were killed, and one of them is suspected to be Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar. At this stage, the IDF has not confirmed Sinwar’s identity, but according to reports, some bodies have been taken to Israel for DNA testing. The IDF also confirmed that no hostages were present where the terrorists were eliminated.
Sinwar, 61, was released from an Israeli prison in 2011 as part of a prisoner exchange. He believed that armed struggle was the only way to fight against the Jewish state, rejecting diplomatic approaches by Hamas leaders based in Doha, like Ismail Haniyeh, whom he derisively called “hotel guys.” In contrast, Doha leaders labeled Sinwar a “megalomaniac.”
Despite some dissent within Gaza, Sinwar maintained a firm grip on Hamas. If Sinwar’s death is confirmed, it would mark a significant military achievement for Israel.
