Google Will Now Allow Users to Send Video Messages in Chat: Here’s How
Google has introduced a new feature in Google Chat that enables users to send video messages, offering more flexible communication options. This feature is currently available on the web, with plans to roll it out to mobile soon.
How to Use the Video Message Feature?
Sending a video message in Google Chat is simple. Here’s how you can do it:
- Open Google Chat and click on the compose box where you would typically type a message.
- Select the record button and choose “video message.”
- Record your message, and if needed, re-record it.
- Once you’re satisfied with your video, just hit send!
These video messages can be shared in direct messages (DMs), group chats, and spaces. You can interact with these messages by quoting, reacting, or replying in threads, just like text messages.
Currently, you can record and send video messages on the web, but mobile users can only view them. Google plans to expand this feature to mobile devices soon.
Who Can Access This Feature?
The video messaging feature will be available to several Google Workspace users, including:
- Business Starter, Standard, Plus
- Enterprise Standard, Plus
- Essentials Starter, Enterprise Essentials
- Nonprofits
- Frontline Starter, Standard
The rollout began on October 7, 2024, for Rapid Release domains and will extend to Scheduled Release domains on October 25, 2024. It may take up to 15 days for the feature to be fully available to all users.
However, video recording isn’t currently supported on systems like ChromeOS, Linux, and Firefox. Google plans to add transcription services to this feature soon, allowing users to read the message as well.
