BJP MLA’s Controversial Statement in Gold Smuggling Case:
Karnataka BJP MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal has made an offensive remark against actress Ranya Rao. Ranya Rao has been arrested in a gold smuggling case. The MLA has also accused state ministers of being involved in this matter. He has stated that he will expose these ministers in the Assembly. The gold smuggling case has raised significant concerns.
MLA’s Controversial Remark:
While speaking to the media, Basangouda Patil Yatnal said, “She had gold all over her body, hiding it wherever she had holes, and smuggled it in.” This statement has sparked controversy. This comment has been widely condemned.
Allegations Against Ministers:
Former Union Minister Yatnal claimed that state ministers are also involved in the gold smuggling case. He said that he would reveal the names of these ministers during the Assembly session. “I will name all the ministers involved in this case during the Assembly session. I have gathered complete information about her relationships, who helped her obtain security, and how the gold was brought in. I will expose everything in the session, including where she hid the gold and how she smuggled it in.”
Ranya Rao’s Arrest:
Ranya Rao, the stepdaughter of Karnataka DGP Ramchandra Rao, was arrested at Bengaluru Airport on March 3 with 14.2 kg of gold worth Rs 12.56 crore while returning from Dubai. Following this, a raid was conducted on her residence, which led to the recovery of gold jewellery worth Rs 2.06 crore and Rs 2.67 crore in cash. She has been arrested, and her bail plea has been rejected. The gold seizure has led to further investigations.
Investigation Reveals:
The investigation by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and other agencies has revealed that Rao traveled to Dubai at least 27 times this year. She is accused of smuggling a substantial amount of gold on each trip by bypassing airport security protocols. However, the airport Protocol Officer has claimed that he acted on direct instructions from Ranya Rao’s father, DGP Ramchandra Rao. This adds a layer of complexity to the corruption allegations.
Ranya Rao’s Denial:
The actress has denied the allegations. She stated that she was falsely accused of smuggling more than 14 kg of gold upon her return from Dubai. In a letter to the Additional Director General of the DRI, she alleged that officials assaulted her and forced her to sign blank and pre-typed documents.
Ranya Rao claimed she was slapped in the face 10 to 15 times and was coerced into signing around 50 to 60 typed papers and 40 blank sheets.
Investigation Against DGP Ramchandra Rao:
Her father, DGP Ramchandra Rao, who currently serves as the Managing Director of the Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation, is also under scrutiny for alleged involvement in the gold smuggling case.
