Goddess Kali's Crown Gifted by PM Modi Stolen

A crown gifted to Goddess Kali at the Jeshoreshwari Temple in Satkhira, Bangladesh, by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been stolen. The silver crown, coated with gold plating, was reported missing on Thursday afternoon after the temple priest had left following the day’s worship. The cleaning staff discovered that the crown was no longer on the deity’s head, as reported by The Daily Star, a Bangladeshi newspaper.

Prime Minister Modi had presented this crown to the temple in March 2021 during his visit to Bangladesh. Jyoti Chattopadhyay, a member of the family responsible for maintaining the temple, confirmed the crown’s religious and cultural significance. According to Hindu mythology, the Jeshoreshwari Temple is considered one of the 51 Shakti Peethas spread across India and neighboring countries.

The Jeshoreshwari Temple, located in Ishwaripur, Satkhira, is believed to have been originally constructed in the latter half of the 12th century by a Brahmin named Anari, who built it with 100 doors for the Jeshoreshwari Pith. It was later renovated by Lakshman Sen in the 13th century and reconstructed by Raja Pratapaditya in the 16th century.

During his visit to the temple, Prime Minister Modi announced plans to build a multipurpose community hall at the temple. He mentioned that the hall would serve social, religious, and educational functions for local residents and would also act as a shelter during natural disasters like cyclones. The theft of the crown has left devotees deeply concerned.
