Giorgia Meloni Meets Zelenskyy, Urges India’s Role

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the TEHA business forum at Lake Como. The meeting focused on Ukraine’s ongoing war with Russia, peace efforts, and the future reconstruction of Ukraine. Meloni reiterated Italy’s unwavering support for Ukraine, emphasizing the moral and strategic necessity of safeguarding national integrity.

Meloni stated, “Italy’s support for Ukraine is not just a moral obligation; it’s in our national interest.” She highlighted the roles of global powers like China and India, urging them to contribute to resolving the conflict. She firmly opposed any notion of ending the war by abandoning Ukraine, labeling such thoughts as unacceptable.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also criticized China for its support of Russia, suggesting Beijing’s assistance has prolonged the war. Meloni described the narrative that the war’s outcome was predetermined as “Russian propaganda,” stressing that Western support has created a chance for peace talks.

Zelenskyy, speaking at the forum, emphasized the need for continued allied support to position Ukraine favorably in any future negotiations. He discussed his peace plan and reconstruction strategy with Meloni, particularly focusing on rebuilding Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

Ahead of the 2025 reconstruction conference to be hosted by Italy, Zelenskyy engaged with Italian business leaders, announcing upcoming opportunities for companies to bid on reconstruction projects. He also mentioned plans to launch a digital platform to facilitate the bidding process in the coming months.
