Aakhir Tak – In Depth
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his victory speech following the BJP’s historic win in the Delhi Assembly elections, said that for the first time, Gen Z “would witness the BJP’s model of governance” in the national capital. The BJP’s thumping win marks its return to power in Delhi after 27 years, defeating AAP after weeks of heated political battle. The BJP’s return in the Delhi Election is remarkable.
“The youth born in the 21st century will now see BJP’s good governance in Delhi for the first time. Today’s results show how much trust the country has in BJP’s double-engine government,” he said. PM Modi has focused on the youth.
He said that after a record-breaking performance in the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had gone on to set unprecedented records in Haryana, Maharashtra, and now, in Delhi.
“I was seeing that BJP workers across the country also had a pain in their hearts. It was about not being able to serve Delhi fully. But today, Delhi has accepted our request too,” he said.
As he stepped onto the podium to a roaring applause from BJP supporters, PM Modi assured the people of Delhi that his government would repay their trust with rapid development. PM Modi has spoken about developing Delhi.
“Delhi has given us love wholeheartedly, and I once again assure the people that we will return you double the love in the form of development,” he said. The Delhi Election has brought good news for BJP.
Calling the people’s mandate a “loan” to his government, he promised to deliver progress at an accelerated pace. “Our double-engine government will now deliver development to Delhi at double speed to repay this loan,” he declared.
He also took aim at AAP in his speech, renewing his ‘AAP-da’ (disaster) jibe against the party. He asserted that the people of Delhi had made the city “AAP-da free” by electing the BJP to power, signalling a decisive rejection of the Kejriwal-led government.
Accusing AAP of thinking of themselves as “owners of Delhi”, PM Modi said, “The people of Delhi have given short-circuit to the way of doing shortcut politics.”
“Those who thought of being the owners of Delhi have been confronted with the truth. It is also clear from the mandate of Delhi that there is no place for shortcuts, lies in politics,” he said.
Turning his attention to Congress, PM Modi said that the grand old party had scored a “double hat-trick” in Delhi. He was referring to the Congress’ failure to secure even a single seat in Delhi in the last three Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
Notably, AAP and Congress fought the Lok Sabha polls together but failed to secure a single seat. For the Delhi Assembly polls, the two parties decided to contest separately, a decision that worked for neither party.
