18 Dead in Israeli Airstrike on Gaza Mosque: Palestinian Media

18 Killed in Israeli Airstrike on Gaza Mosque, Claims Palestinian Media

According to Palestinian media, an Israeli airstrike targeted a mosque in Gaza, killing at least 18 people and injuring dozens. The strike occurred early Sunday near the Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah, in central Gaza. This incident took place as the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas marks its first anniversary.

Eyewitnesses reported that the death toll could rise as the mosque was being used to shelter displaced people. The Israeli military released a statement claiming the strike was “precisely targeted at Hamas terrorists operating within a command and control center embedded in the Shuhada al-Aqsa Mosque in Deir al-Balah.”

This latest escalation is part of the decades-long Israeli-Palestinian conflict, reignited on October 7, 2023, when Hamas militants attacked southern Israel. The assault resulted in the deaths of more than 1,200 people, with around 250 taken hostage, according to Israeli reports.

Since then, Israel’s military response has led to nearly 42,000 Palestinian casualties, according to Gaza’s health ministry. The conflict has displaced nearly all of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents, leading to a hunger crisis and genocide allegations at the World Court, which Israel denies.
