Gautam Gambhir’s Coaching Era Begins: India Face Confident Bangladesh in Chennai Test
India will begin a new chapter under the coaching of Gautam Gambhir as they face a confident Bangladesh in the first Test in Chennai. Gambhir, a World Cup-winning former opener, now steps into the challenging role of head coach for the Indian cricket team. Although his start was shaky with an ODI series loss to Sri Lanka, the real test for him will come in the form of Test cricket.
Gambhir’s approach has already garnered attention, focusing on flexibility and clear communication. He stated, “We don’t drop players, we pick the best XI for each match. Our focus is solely on team performance.”
Full-Strength India Favorites:
Led by Rohit Sharma, India has assembled a strong squad for this series, with the captain emphasizing that it is no mere warm-up for tougher challenges ahead. India will face New Zealand in a three-Test series followed by the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.
Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rishabh Pant have all returned, adding considerable strength to the lineup. Pant, returning after 632 days, will provide the much-needed solidity in the middle order. The spin department features Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav, giving India plenty of options on turning pitches.
Bangladesh’s Challenge:
Despite India being overwhelming favorites, Bangladesh arrives with confidence after a 2-0 series win over Pakistan. Their pace attack, led by Hasan Mahmud, Nahid Rana, Taskin Ahmed, and Shoriful Islam, impressed with 21 wickets in Pakistan.
The Chennai pitch is expected to offer pace and bounce early on but will dry up as the match progresses, favoring the spinners. Both teams will need to make crucial decisions on team selection based on how the pitch behaves on Day 1.
India has not lost a home Test series since 2012, and they will aim to continue that streak. Meanwhile, Bangladesh will look to challenge India and play competitive cricket, a moral victory for them on Indian soil.
