During the 2024 BRICS Summit, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the need for collective global action against terrorism and radicalization. He stressed that there should be no place for double standards in the fight against terrorism. PM Modi stated, “To combat terrorism and terror financing, we must work together with resolve and unity.”
PM Modi also urged global cooperation to address radicalization, especially among the youth. He pressed for the pending comprehensive convention on international terrorism at the United Nations to move forward, underscoring its importance for global peace.
In his address, the Prime Minister highlighted pressing global challenges like food security, energy security, and cybersecurity. “Preventing inflation and ensuring food, energy, and health security are priorities for all nations,” he said. He also called for reforms in institutions like the UN Security Council, Multilateral Development Banks, and the WTO.
The BRICS Summit, held in Kazan, also saw PM Modi engage in a significant bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, marking their first formal discussion in five years. This meeting followed a truce between India and China regarding the patrolling of disputed areas along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh.
PM Modi further called for global regulations on cybersecurity and the ethical use of artificial intelligence, addressing emerging challenges like deepfakes and misinformation.
