Accusations Surface Against Dr. Sandip Ghosh, Ex-Principal of RG Kar Medical College
Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, is now at the center of serious allegations. Former colleagues and batchmates have accused him of corruption, misconduct, and running a “mafia-like operation” during his tenure.
From Humble Beginnings to a Controversial Rise
Dr. Ghosh, who began his journey in the small town of Bangaon and graduated from RG Kar Medical College in 1994, quickly climbed the ranks in the medical profession. However, his rapid ascent to the top post at RG Kar in 2021 raised many eyebrows.
A professor from another hospital, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed that Ghosh ranked sixteenth during the interview process for the principal position, yet secured the top spot. This mysterious rise was followed by a series of controversies.
A Legacy of Allegations
During his time as principal, Ghosh faced numerous accusations, including financial misconduct, extortion, and the unethical redirection of corpses meant for post-mortem to unauthorized uses. A former classmate expressed surprise at the transformation of Ghosh, noting his unremarkable college years but suggesting that power may have changed him.
Despite multiple complaints reaching the state Health Department, Ghosh managed to reverse transfer orders, allegedly with the backing of a group of students and interns who protested in his favor.
Mafia-Like Operation
The most serious allegations came from Dr. Akhtar Ali, a former deputy superintendent at the college, who accused Ghosh of operating like a mafia leader. Ali claimed that Ghosh extorted money from tenders, failed students for personal gain, and supplied liquor to students in the guest house. Despite these accusations, Ghosh continued in his role, even being appointed as the principal of another state-run hospital shortly after a scandal involving the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar.
CBI Probe into the RG Kar Case
The controversy escalated following the tragic incident at RG Kar, leading to a CBI investigation. Ghosh has been questioned multiple times by the CBI, which is probing his actions during and after the incident.
The investigation continues, with more information being sought from Ghosh regarding his role in the scandal and the circumstances surrounding his controversial career.
