DK Shivakumar Wins Relief in High Court Ruling

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has secured a major victory as the Karnataka High Court rejected the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) plea to investigate a disproportionate assets case against him. The court dismissed petitions filed by the CBI and BJP MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal, who challenged the state government’s decision to withdraw consent for a CBI probe.

The decision comes as a significant relief to Shivakumar, who appeared before the Lokayukta Police last week in connection with the case. In February, the Lokayukta Police had filed a case against him after the Karnataka government, led by the Siddaramaiah administration, withdrew consent for a CBI investigation in November 2023.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had also rejected Shivakumar’s plea challenging the CBI’s FIR. The High Court had directed the CBI to conclude its investigation within three months. The FIR, filed by the CBI in September 2020, accused Shivakumar of amassing wealth disproportionate to his known income between 2013 and 2018.

This court ruling effectively puts an end to the CBI’s attempt to pursue its investigation, further solidifying Shivakumar’s position amid ongoing political tensions in Karnataka.
