New BJP Government in Delhi: Portfolio Allocations
The BJP government in New Delhi has allocated cabinet portfolios. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will retain the Finance and Revenue departments. Senior leader Ashish Sood has been assigned the Home Ministry. Rekha Gupta, who became the ninth Chief Minister of Delhi, will be responsible for Finance, Revenue, and Women and Child Development. This decision was made after the BJP government was sworn in.
Key Ministers and Their Departments
Ashish Sood has been assigned the Home Ministry, along with important portfolios such as Power, Education, and Urban Development. Jat leader Parvesh Verma will oversee the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, which is responsible for cleaning the Yamuna River. Pankaj Kumar Singh, a first-time legislator, will be in charge of Health and Family Welfare and Transport. Ravinder Indraj, a prominent Dalit face of the party, has been given the responsibility of Social Welfare and SC/ST Welfare departments.
Kapil Mishra and Other Ministers’ Departments
Kapil Mishra, a Hindutva leader of the party, has been appointed as the Minister of Law and Justice. He will also oversee the Labour Department. Sikh leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa has been assigned the responsibility of Forest and Environment Minister, as well as the Food and Supplies Department.

New Government’s Decisions
In the first cabinet meeting after the swearing-in ceremony, the government decided to table 14 Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports in the first assembly session. These reports have revealed government losses due to the liquor policy scam and the alleged extravagant renovation of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence. The Rekha Gupta cabinet has also decided to swiftly fulfil its election promises, including the Mahila Samman Yojana, which aims to provide Rs 2,500 to women in Delhi. Additionally, the government decided to implement the Ayushman Yojana, the Centre’s health insurance scheme, which was not adopted by the AAP government. Approval was also given for a top-up of Rs 5 lakh from the Delhi government, in addition to the Rs 5 lakh provided by the central government.
In the recently concluded 70-member Delhi Assembly elections, the BJP secured a decisive victory with 48 seats, while the AAP won 22 seats, ending the AAP’s decade-long rule in the capital. Rekha Gupta, a first-time MLA and a prominent Baniya face in the BJP, was sworn in as the ninth Chief Minister of Delhi on Thursday in a grand ceremony at Ramlila Maidan. The event was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and other dignitaries. Her Council of Ministers also took the oath.
