A 50-year-old man and his four daughters were found dead in their rented home in Delhi’s Rangpuri area. The bodies were discovered on Friday morning, with all five victims foaming at the mouth. Police suspect a possible suicide pact.
The victims were identified as Hira Lal, the father, and his daughters Neetu (18), Nishi (15), Neeru (10), and Nidhi (8). All four daughters were specially abled. Neetu was visually impaired, and Nishi had difficulty walking; the nature of the other daughters’ disabilities is still under investigation.
According to police, Hira Lal, a carpenter, had been living alone with his daughters since his wife’s death a year ago. CCTV footage showed Hira Lal entering the house on September 24, after which no one was seen entering or leaving the premises.
When police arrived at the scene on Friday, they found the door locked from the inside. The Delhi Fire Service was called to break open the door, and the bodies of all five were found inside.
The girls’ bodies were located in the bedroom, while their father’s body was found in a separate room. All five were foaming at the mouth.
Pouches of a poisonous substance were discovered near the bodies, along with tetra packs of juice and a bottle of water found in the room’s dustbin.
The bodies were sent for a post-mortem examination. While initial investigations suggest a suicide pact, police are investigating the circumstances that led to this tragic incident.
