Court Orders AIIMS Team to Conduct Autopsy of Schoolgirl
Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court ordered the post-mortem of the 11-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped and murdered in West Bengal’s Jaynagar, to be conducted at Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial (JNM) Hospital in Kalyani. The autopsy is scheduled for October 7.
The girl went missing on Friday night and was found dead in South 24 Parganas district. A team from AIIMS Kalyani will carry out the autopsy, with the process overseen by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Baruipur.
This decision follows the victim’s family’s disagreement with conducting the autopsy at a state-run facility. The High Court also stated that if the family wishes, they can observe the proceedings virtually from outside the post-mortem room. If they choose not to participate, a separate, comfortable space will be arranged for them nearby.
The court further instructed that AIIMS Kalyani doctors must directly inform the family of the findings after the autopsy.
Meanwhile, police sources revealed that the arrested accused has confessed to murder but denied raping her. During questioning, the accused, Mostakin Sardar, stated that he attempted to rape the girl but killed her after she resisted. He then disposed of her body in a nearby canal. A murder case has been filed, and police are awaiting the victim’s autopsy report.
