Aakhir Tak – In Depth
Price Reduction of Commercial LPG Cylinders
Ahead of the Union Budget 2025-26, oil marketing companies have slashed the price of a 19kg commercial LPG cylinder by ₹7. Starting today, the retail price of the cylinder in Delhi will be ₹1,797, down from ₹1,804. This price adjustment comes as Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman prepares to present the Union Budget for the eighth consecutive time.
Consecutive Price Reductions
This marks the second consecutive month that the price of commercial LPG cylinders has been reduced. On January 1, 2025, the price had been cut by ₹14.50, from ₹1,818.50 to ₹1,804. However, the price increase of ₹16.50 in December 2024 and other increases in prior months highlighted the volatility of commercial LPG prices, which have been rising steadily since October 2024.
Domestic LPG Prices Unchanged
In contrast, the prices of domestic LPG cylinders have remained stable. A 14.2kg domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi continues to cost ₹803, with similar prices seen across other major cities, including ₹829 in Kolkata, ₹802 in Mumbai, and ₹818 in Chennai. This stability contrasts with the fluctuations seen in the commercial LPG sector.
Monthly Price Adjustments
Oil marketing companies regularly revise the prices of both commercial and domestic LPG cylinders on the first day of every month. These changes are influenced by several factors, including global oil prices, supply chain dynamics, and changes in crude oil pricing, which can directly impact the cost of LPG in India.
