Aakhir Tak – In Depth

China escalated tensions in the Taiwan Strait by deploying 125 aircraft, including fighter jets, helicopters, and drones, alongside its Liaoning aircraft carrier in its largest military drill surrounding Taiwan. The drills simulated a blockade of key ports and came after Taiwan’s president, Lai Ching-te, dismissed China’s claims over the island. Lai’s remarks, in which he emphasized resisting Chinese annexation, prompted Beijing’s strong reaction, calling it “Taiwan independence nonsense.”

In response, Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense monitored the situation closely, stating that their military is prepared to respond to any threats. The drills were held in six strategic areas around Taiwan, with China claiming it as a major warning against Taiwan independence. Meanwhile, Taipei remained unfazed, with officials reiterating their commitment to upholding democracy.

The United States, Taiwan’s primary ally, condemned China’s actions, urging restraint to maintain peace. This military drill marks another episode in the ongoing tensions between China and Taiwan, with China continuously increasing military activities around the island, considering Taiwan’s independence aspirations a direct challenge to its sovereignty.
