A fire at Chennai’s Manali substation caused widespread power cuts across various parts of the city on Thursday night. The outage impacted areas from Manali to Mint, leaving many residents in darkness. The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) stated that efforts are underway to restore power swiftly.
TANGEDCO reported, “A fire accident at Manali substation in North Chennai has disrupted power supply to most parts of the city. We are working on a bypass line to restore power within 30 minutes.” The incident led to widespread complaints, with many residents taking to social media to voice their frustrations over the blackout.
One resident tweeted, “Due to a fire in the Manali substation, electricity has been cut off in various areas in Chennai.” The fire incident has raised concerns among residents, especially the elderly who are experiencing health issues due to the prolonged power cut.
A local from Chennai’s Adyar area expressed on Twitter, “Elderly people are suffering with heavy palpitations and BP issues. I heard a lot of areas in Chennai don’t have power. Please sort it out!”
While TANGEDCO has assured the public that power will be restored soon, the incident highlights the vulnerability of the city’s power infrastructure and the urgent need for preventive measures to avoid such disruptions in the future.
