After the grand air show celebrating the 92nd anniversary of the Indian Air Force, lakhs of people were left stranded on the streets of Chennai due to poor traffic management. The event, which aimed to break into the Limca Book of World Records by gathering around 1.6 million people, started at 11 AM and ended at 1 PM. However, thousands had already arrived as early as 8 AM to secure good spots under the scorching sun.
Several elderly attendees fainted from heat exhaustion even before the event commenced. The situation worsened as water vendors were removed from the area, leaving attendees without access to drinking water. When the show concluded, the massive crowd attempted to exit simultaneously, leading to a complete traffic jam on Kamarajar Salai.
Exhausted from the heat and congestion, many people sat down on the roadside to recover their strength. Nearby residents came to the rescue, offering drinking water to those in need. However, metro stations became overcrowded as people sought alternative ways to return home.
The chaotic aftermath has sparked outrage over the lack of planning and preparation. Many have compared this situation to the cancellation of actor Vijay’s TVK public meeting, which was called off due to concerns about crowd control. However, authorities seemingly failed to make sufficient arrangements for the lakhs who attended the air show.
