Aakhir Tak – In Depth The Chenab Bridge, recognized as the tallest railway bridge globally, recently came under the spotlight for undergoing trials. It is expected to improve connectivity between Jammu and the Kashmir Valley. According to sources, Pakistan’s intelligence agency, acting under Chinese instructions, has collected details about this strategic bridge. This engineering marvel took over 20 years to complete and is located in the Reasi district of Jammu. It forms part of a 272-kilometer, all-weather railway section designed to extend to the Kashmir Valley, though the project does not yet have a set completion date. Currently, road access between Kashmir and the rest of India often gets disrupted in winter due to heavy snow, leading to blockages.
The bridge will provide India with a strategic advantage along its tense border with Pakistan. The region of Kashmir, contested by both nations and subject to two wars, remains a flashpoint. Since 1989, insurgency in the region has resulted in thousands of deaths and a significant military presence. The new railway line is part of over 50 infrastructure projects, including highways and power developments, that aim to strengthen the region’s connectivity.
