A political confrontation has erupted between Chandrababu Naidu and Jagan Mohan Reddy over the faith ‘declaration’ controversy at the Tirupati temple. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has accused opposition leader Jagan Mohan Reddy of spreading lies that the TDP-led government obstructed his visit to the Tirumala temple.
According to temple rules, foreigners and non-Hindus must declare their faith in Lord Venkateswara before having a darshan at the hill shrine. Jagan Reddy postponed his visit after alleging that his party members were threatened with police notices, a claim dismissed by Naidu.
Naidu challenged Reddy, “Show the notice to the media if it exists. Why spread lies?”
Speaking to reporters, Naidu emphasized the need for public figures to respect religious traditions. “No one is above beliefs and traditions, and disrespecting them is unacceptable,” Naidu said.
Jagan Reddy, in response, called Naidu’s rule a “Rakshasa Rajyam” (kingdom of demons) and criticized BJP over the laddu issue.
Reddy added, “As a devotee of Lord Venkateswara, I don’t want to divert the issue, so I’m postponing my visit.”
The controversy deepened when Naidu accused the previous YSRCP regime of using substandard ghee and animal fat in the famous Tirupati laddus. This led to nationwide outrage, with YSRCP accusing Naidu of making “heinous allegations” for political gains.
