Aakhir Tak – In Depth
The Indian aviation industry faced a severe threat on Saturday when 32 Indian flights received bomb threats. The airlines affected included Air India, IndiGo, Akasa Air, Vistara, SpiceJet, Star Air, and Alliance Air. Emergency security checks were conducted for all flights after landing at their respective destinations. However, only one flight, Vistara’s UK 17 from Delhi to London, was diverted to Frankfurt, Germany, for an emergency inspection. After a two-hour security check, the flight resumed its journey to London.
The bomb threats were mostly hoaxes, communicated through messages found in the aircraft lavatories or sent via social media and emails. Fortunately, no real threat was discovered. Nevertheless, the event highlighted the need to strengthen aviation security protocols in India.
In response to the situation, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) held a meeting with the CEOs and representatives of Indian airlines. BCAS Director General Zulfiquar Hasan assured that all safety protocols are being strictly followed and that Indian skies are completely secure. He urged passengers to continue flying without any fear.
The Civil Aviation Ministry is planning to take strict measures to prevent future incidents, including placing perpetrators of hoax bomb threats on a no-fly list. In one case, a 17-year-old boy from Chhattisgarh was arrested for issuing 19 threats as part of a revenge plan against his business partner. Authorities are investigating the remaining threats and working closely with social media platforms and VPN providers.
