This is a significant increase compared to the ₹1,132 crore average allocation from 2009-2014. The increased funding will aid in the accelerated development of Bihar’s rail infrastructure, marking a major step forward for the state.
Rail Network Expansion
A major focus of this budget will be the redevelopment of several key railway stations in Bihar. The stations in Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Bapu Dham Motihari, Sitamarhi, and Darbhanga will undergo modernization, with an investment of ₹1,555 crore. Additionally, under the Amrit Station scheme, 98 railway stations will be upgraded, offering enhanced passenger facilities and contributing to the modernization of Bihar’s rail network.
New Rail Tracks Laid in Bihar
Since 2014, over 1,832 kilometers of new railway tracks have been laid in Bihar. At present, 57 projects are ongoing, with an investment of ₹86,458 crore. With this progress, Bihar’s rail network is now comparable to the entire rail network of Malaysia, signifying the scale of improvements being made.
Electrification and Infrastructure Improvements
Bihar has achieved 100% electrification of its rail lines, a crucial development for reducing dependency on fossil fuels and enhancing environmental sustainability. From 2009 to 2014, only 30 kilometers of rail track were electrified annually, but from 2014 to 2025, this figure has risen to 275 kilometers per year.
Vande Bharat Express and Flyover Developments
Currently, 12 Vande Bharat Express trains are operational in Bihar, connecting 15 districts. The state has also seen the construction of 514 railway flyovers and underpasses, improving passenger safety and convenience.
