Bihar’s Rs 3 Crore Bridge: A Flawed Project?
In Bihar’s Araria district, a bridge constructed at a cost of Rs 3 crore has sparked controversy. The bridge, part of a road and bridge project in Parmanandpur village, stands in isolation in an open field with no connecting road.
Project Overview
The bridge was built under the Chief Minister Gramin Sadak scheme, aimed at improving connectivity in rural areas. It was meant to be a part of a 3-kilometre-long road and bridge project. However, the project has failed to meet its objective of connecting local villages, particularly during the rainy season.
Issues with the Construction
The primary issue is that the bridge lacks any approach paths on either side. The land where the bridge stands was acquired by the administration, but the acquisition of the surrounding land remains incomplete. As a result, the bridge is effectively useless without a connecting road.
Local residents have expressed their frustration, highlighting that the area has a dry river that complicates travel during the rainy season. The bridge was intended to facilitate easier movement during such times, but its current state negates this purpose.
Administrative Response
The situation has drawn the attention of Araria District Magistrate Inayat Khan. Khan has requested a report from the executive engineer and has instructed the Sub-Divisional Officer, Circle Officer, and the concerned engineer to visit the site. An investigation is underway to understand how the project proceeded despite the lack of complete land acquisition.
Khan assured that necessary actions will be taken based on the findings of the investigation. He emphasized the need to address the issue of non-availability of land and how it impacted the project’s execution.
The Rs 3 crore bridge in Bihar’s Araria district stands as a testament to flawed project management. Without an approach road, the bridge serves no practical purpose, and the local administration faces mounting pressure to resolve the issue. The outcome of the ongoing investigation will determine the next steps and whether corrective actions will be implemented.
