Bihar Bridge Collapses Before Inauguration, Safety Concerns Rise

A newly constructed overbridge in Bihar has collapsed before its official inauguration, sparking widespread concern about the state’s infrastructure. The incident took place on the Ramashish Chowk overbridge along NH 31, connecting Hajipur and Chhapra. The overbridge, completed just six months ago, developed a large crater, leading to the immediate suspension of all vehicular movement by local authorities.

This overbridge was the only main route connecting Hajipur and Chhapra, and its closure has caused significant disruption. According to traffic police officer Awadh Bihari Singh, “We received information about a massive crater forming on the Ramashish Chowk overbridge. As a precaution, we have sealed both sides of the bridge, and vehicles are being redirected to the old bridge.”

Local residents are angered and frustrated, pointing fingers at the government and engineers for what they describe as gross negligence. They claim that despite the overbridge being completed only six months ago, the construction quality was so poor that it couldn’t withstand regular traffic. The incident has reignited discussions about the quality of public infrastructure in Bihar, where similar cases of bridge collapses have occurred recently.

The public is demanding accountability and urgent repairs, fearing that such incidents may become more frequent if corruption and negligence in infrastructure projects are not addressed.
